Overall length = 60 feet (varied)
Overall width at midpoint = 8 feet (varied)
Depth at midpoint about 2 feet.
Covered cabins at bow and stern. Roof of forward cabin rounded and sloping, rear was flat and used as platform for steersman.
Mast had iron pivot mechanism to allow easy lowering when passing under bridges.
Cleated walking boards ran alongside cargo hold for polemen.
Cargo hold had transverse thwarts (bracing timbers) nearly even with gunwales on which walking boards rested.




Average crew = five men.
Poles were about 16+ feet long, 12 pound iron tip at bottom end and rounded wooden button at top.
Steering sweep was 23+ feet long and rested on an iron pin in the sternpost.
